Bat Care

Bat Care

The 'RS' Cricket Bats have been manufactured from specially graded willow by ROBINSON SPORTS adopting skills and techniques mastered over for more than six decades to produce fine quality cricket bats.

The willow which is soft wood with grains & prior to making of cricket bats the blades of the bats are naturally seasoned & dried then compressed to attain the desired hardness but certainly keeping in mind the softness required for proper rebound of the ball.

Too hard pressing to make surface of the blade hard is always avoided as hard surfaced blades not only tend to crack but also lead to dead stroke. We all know that best bats are with softer blades which get easily dented and damaged the bat.

The 'RS' cricket bats are always with soft surface yet having hardness enough to mitigate the damage, which crops up when combating leather cricket ball.

The edges and bottom of the bat may be damaged especially the corners at the bottom while playing a Yorker. It must be kept in mind that ball should contact the middle area of the bat. The bad shot when played may damage the bat, which certainly is not the fault of the blade. Most of the bats get damaged at edges or bottom. For proper care to keep and maintain bat in top condition we suggest to adopt the mentioned method which is very easy to follow.

OILING OF CRICKET BAT

Before putting these bats to use do apply a light coating of raw linseed oil to the face, back edges and toe of the bat with the fingers and palm of the hand or oil dipped and squeezed cloth.

Do not oil splice portion and handle of the bat. After weekly intervals the same process should be repeated 5 to 6 times. You must clean the bat with finest quality flint paper before each repeated application. YOU MUST USE LINSEED OIL OR SPECIAL BAT OIL ONLY.

POLY COATED BATS

Do not oil these bats. However, when poly coating wears from toe area and willow is exposed these should be slightly oiled as explained. The poly coat bats must be knocked in properly before use.

KNOCKING

The bat has been pressed skillfully to make its surface most playable & provide excellence service. The carefully knocking of the bat with a used leather cricket bal or “RS” specially made bat mallets will certainly lead to desired results and perfect conditioning. But minimum knocking with mallet or ball should not be less than seven - hour total work time. The through knocking to make edges and toe hard will certainly ensure minimising the damage during use.

G.F. TAPE

self adhesive, anti - abrasive and G.F. fabricated tape can be fixed on the surface of the bat. This G.F tape has is being used and patronized by many test and A grade players all over the world as the protector of the blade and especially very useful for the edges of the bat. This tape is made of the some material, which is being used, on the rotor blades of the helicopter against any strike of birds or any other flying object while landing or taking off.

THE USE OF G.F. TAPE CLEARLY SYMBOLISES THE MIGHT AS AN ANTI ABRASIVE PROTECTOR WE THUS SUGGEST THAT YOU MUST USE IT.

PLEASE AVOID THE FOLLOWING :-

  • Avoid over-oiling which is certainly dangerous than under oiling.
The over oil will lead to dents and cracks on the surface and will add to the weight of the bat.
  • Avoid rather never ever stand the bat in oil.
  • Avoid the bat to become damp.
  • Avoid fixing stumps while knocking them with the handle of the bat.
  • Avoid exposure to extreme temperature and resist from keeping the bat in the car dicky for long periods.
  • Avoid using cheap hard balls, which will damage the bat.
  • Avoid playing with a damaged bat which may lead to such deterioration where the bats may be beyond repairs.
  • Avoid moisture which will damage your bat while swelling at edges and bottom.

MUST ADOPT THE FOLLOWING
